Ingredients

beef shank
1/3 c
carrots, diced
1 Tbsp
onion, minced
1/4 tsp
celery salt
1/8 tsp
pepper
3 qt
cold water
1/3 c
turnips, diced
1
bay leaf
1 tsp
salt
2 Tbsp
cooking fat

Step-By-Step

1Wipe beef shank.

2Cut meat in small pieces.

3Crush bone.

4Brown meat in hot cooking fat.

5Combine meat, bone, bay leaf, celery salt, water, salt, and pepper.

6Cover.

7Simmer slowly 4-5 hours.

8Skim as necessary.

9Brown vegetables in hot cooking fat.

10Add to meat broth.

11Simmer until vegetables are tender.
