Crystal's Story

My family says these are the best pintos they ever had even the ones that said they didn't like beans much usually go back for 2nd helpings great comforting food along with homemade southern cornbread

Ingredients

2 lb
dry pinto beans
2 lb
dry great northern bean
4
beef bouillon, cubes
1 lb
package smoked sausage sliced
1 large
onion chopped
salt to taste

Directions Step-By-Step

rinse and look through beans put into 7 quart slow cooker with beef boullion cubes add enough water to cover beans probably about 4 quarts allowing beans to swell and not get dried out

cook on high about 4 hours turn on low cook about 4 more hours

add chopped onion and sliced sausage and salt to taste then allow beans to cook on low for at least 4 more hours on low

great served with homemade southern cornbread

Fixed this tonight and enjoyed. However, for pre-soaked beans, twelve hours cooking time just too much. I soaked overnight and four or five hours cooking would've been fine. I cut the recipe in half and still had enough for a small army!

It should work out fine the sausage and onions give the beans geat flavor

Okay, thanks. I normally cook beans on the stove. I will use your recipe and convert to stovetop cooking. I think your recipe sounds great.

yeah I usually make that much in mine but if you fear it won't hold that amount you can always reduce the amount of beans and still cook for the same amount of time or what you desire but yes it pretty much makes a full pot
