Comforting Lentil Soup

We love lentils at our house and eat them regularly. They are nutritious and this dish is great comfort food any time of year. I usually add Italian seasoning, however, today for lunch I decided to mix it up and I created a new and delicious Lentil soup that my husband and I loved. The combination of the ingredients I used meshed perfectly together and really upped the flavors. I will be making this many times over.

Ingredients

1 pkg
16 oz. lentils, dry
6 c
water or beef or vegetable broth
1/3 c
chopped onion
1/3 c
chopped carrots
1/3 c
chopped celery
1 tsp
garlic powder
1/2 tsp
salt or to taste
1 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 tsp
black pepper or to taste
3 Tbsp
brown sugar
1/3 c
ketchup
3
thin strips of bacon roughly chopped (optional)

Prepare ingredients.

Put the liquid in a medium or large pan. Add all the ingredients. Bring to a boil and turn the temperature to medium and cook for 1 hour adding more liquid as needed. Remove pan from heat and serve.
