This recipe is called "Suspiciously" delicious because it's creator is vegetarian and her husband upon tasting it thought it must surely have meat in it due to the flavor. This extra depth of flavor is from the brown bits left after carmelizing the cabbage. Be sure to scrape them up and mix them into the cream as you add that ingredient. Also there is no substitute for the fresh ginger. It truly makes the dish.
In a very large pan, heat the butter over medium heat until it is melted and starting to bubble. Stir in the onion and garlic, cook for 5 minutes until soft.
Stir in the fresh grated ginger and good for a minute. Then add the cabbage, stir well to coat it with the butter and other flavors. Cook, stir occasionally for 15, to 20 minutes, until the cabbage has softened and caramelized.
Turn the heat to low and stir in the cream making sure to scrape any browned bits up from the pan bottom. Cover and cook over low for 10 minutes. Uncover, add salt and pepper to taste. Then cook for a few minutes, stirring once or twice, to let the liquid evaporate, if necessary. Adjust seasonings as desired and serve.
