brown sugar, firmly packed
Place sauerkraut in bottom of crockpot, mix in brown sugar. Add whole onion.
Place meat on top (pork roast, pork chops, hot dogs, etc.) add salt and pepper, if needed.
Cook on low fore 10 hours. The longer cooked, the better the sauerkraut.
For years Mom would cook this in a roaster, in 300 degree oven, for 3 or 5 hrs, adding water to keep moist. Then she discovered the crockpot.
