My Mom was raised PA Dutch, this is one of many recipe that have been handed down in our family from mother to daughter for many generations.

Ingredients For rodekool (red cabbage)

  • 1 1/2 tsp
    butter, melted
  • 1
    small head red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2
    tart apples, peeled, cored and chopped
  • 1/4 c
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1 c
    red currant jelly
  • 1/4 c
    water
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    sugar

How To Make rodekool (red cabbage)

  • 1
    Melt butter in a two quart saucepan and add cabbage, apples, cider vinegar, current jelly and water. Mix well.

    Cover and simmer over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is tender, about 1 hour.

    Add salt and sugar, mix and serve.

    This recipe can be prepared a day ahead , just refrigerate. When ready to use just warm through.
