Nothing ever tastes the same as when they are pulled out of the garden and cooked fresh. When my kids wouldn't touch a vegetable on a bet the grand exception was always grampa's greenbeans. Nothing fancy just good.

  • 2-3 slice
    cooked bacon, broken into pieces

    onion,finely chopped.

    salt and pepper to taste
  • -
    bacon drippings

How To Make grampa's green beans

  • 1
Place snipped green beans in a large pot and add crumbled bacon, bacon drippings, onion,(my kids think onions are evil and can find even the tiniest amount in a mound of food. But some foods onion salt won't do and green beans are one of those foods. So I cut the onion in half and throw it in while they are cooking and take it out right before they sit down to the table) salt and pepper to taste. Cover with enough water to cover beans by about 2 to 3 inches.

Bring to boil, turn heat to med. and cover. Cook over medium heat until tender and liquid is reduced by about half. About 25-35 min. You may need longer if you have a big pot full.
