Ingredients For decadent creamed onions

    red onions, sliced
  • 3 md
    sweet onions, sliced
  • 8 Tbsp
    butter, divided
  • 1 bunch
    leeks
  • 1 - 16 oz pkg
    pearl onions, frozen, thawed
  • 6
    shallots, sliced
  • 3 - 5 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 2 c
    heavy cream
  • 1 c
    panko bread crumbs
  • 1/2 c
    parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 c
    parsley
  • pepper, to taste

How To Make decadent creamed onions

    PREP LEEKS: Slice leeks in 1/2. Soak in cold water for 1 minute & repeat as needed. You need to get all of the sand out of them.

    Saute red & sweet onions in 1 tbsp butter, stirring often, in a non stick pan until softened over low heat, about 30 minutes; transfer to a bowl & set aside. NOTE: Sauteeing the onions seperately - yields the best flavor.

    In same pan, cook leeks in 1 tbsp butter, 15 minutes. Add to onions; set aside.

    End by sauteeing pearl onions & shallots in 1 tbsp butter until softened, 15 minutes. Add to onion mixture; set aside.

    Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

    Saute garlic in 2 tbsp butter, 30 seconds; add cream. Cook until thickened, 15 minutes.

    Combine onion mixture & cream mixtures; pour into a 2 qt baking dish.

    Mix panko, parmesan, parsley, pepper & 3 tbsp melted butter; mix well. Sprinkle over onion mixture. Bake 45 minutes - 1 hour or until brown.
