My love affair with pearl onions continues. I thought, why not add my other love, leeks, to the mix? So this recipe was born. If you love pearl onions and leeks like I do, I think you will love this dish! 12-22-15

Ingredients For creamed peas and pearl onions with buttered leeks

  • 1 bag
    pearl onions
  • 2 md
    leeks, washed and sliced 1/2" thick
  • 1 c
    frozen green peas
  • 4 Tbsp
    butter, divided
  • 3 Tbsp
    all purpose flour
  • 1/8 tsp
    garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    white pepper
  • 2 c
    heavy cream

How To Make creamed peas and pearl onions with buttered leeks

    Wash leeks thoroughly, then slice in half lengthwise. Cut into 1/2" slices.

    Place pearl onions in boiling water for 3-4 minutes; rinse in cold water and peel. Set aside.

    In a large saucepan, melt 2 Tbsp. butter and add the washed and sliced leeks. Cook, stirring often, for 5 minutes.

    Meanwhile, steam the peas and the pearl onions for 5 minutes and drain. Add mixture to the pan containing the leeks.

    In a medium saucepan, melt 2 Tbsp. butter and stir in flour, making a paste. Gradually add the heavy cream, whisking constantly until mixture becomes slightly thick. Add seasonings

    When sauce is thick and bubbling, pour over peas, pearl onions and leeks. Stir and serve.
