Deluxe Three-Bean Bake

Look out summer! Here come the barbecue grills!!! And what goes better with grilled meat than some juicy, deep-flavored baked beans?

½ lb
sliced bacon, cut cross-wise into ¼-½
1 lb
ground beef*
*or omit the beef and double the bacon, or toss in a pork hock...whatever you'd like!
1 pkg
lipton onion soup and recipe mix
½-¾ c
chopped onion
1 16-oz. can(s)
pork and beans, not drained
1 15½-oz. can(s)
butter beans**, drained and rinsed
1 15½-oz. can(s)
cannelloni beans**, drained and rinsed
**or substitute the equivalent of any other bean(s) you like.
½ c
½ c
packed brown sugar (may substutute equal amounts of honey and molasses for half the brown sugar if you wish)
1 Tbsp
prepared mustard (of your liking...i use uncle phil's sweet and sassy)
½ tsp
lawry's seasoned salt
pepper blend, to taste (i mix ground black, white, and cayenne peppers)

Directions Step-By-Step

In Dutch oven cook bacon, hamburger and onion until meats are browned and onion is tender. Drain off any excess fat (although you will want some.)
Stir in remaining ingredients.
Cover and bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or transfer to 4-quart Crock-Pot® and cook on low heat setting for 6 hours (or longer to cook off more of the juice...your choice.) 1 hour before serving (after 5 hours of cooking), taste beans, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Continue cooking for last hour.
