OLD family recipe. Made with fresh fruit. This is my grandmother's recipe that has always been a family 'staple' for our Holiday dinners. It goes well with any meat and keeps a very long time in the refrigerator because it is pickled.

Ingredients For sweet-sour cherries

  • sour cherries-pitted
  • vinegar
  • sugar

How To Make sweet-sour cherries

    Place pitted cherries in a crock. Cover with vinegar and allow to stand 24 hours or longer.

    Drain vinegar (save it for salads) Measure cherries in a measuring cup...press down for good measure.

    Add equal amount of sugar to the cherries. Keep them in a crock. Stir once a day until sugar is dissolved.
  • 4
    When sugar is dissolved they can be put into jars and refrigerated and kept indefinitely.
