My mom made this every summer! Everyone loved it. It has taken me 2 years to find her recipe after her passing - but this year I finally found it! I hope you all enjoy it. I made 1/2 the recipe....it makes A LOT!!!! This was my first time canning....I hope mom is watching in heaven and smiling!!

Ingredients For my mom's chow chow

  • 2 large
    heads of cabbage
  • 6 large
    onions
  • 12
    green peppers
  • 6
    banana peppers
  • 12 large
    green tomatoes
  • 12
    ripe tomaotes
  • 2 qt
    vinegar
  • 2 qt
    sugar
  • 1 tsp
    celery seed
  • 1 tsp
    mustard seed
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 small
    hot pepper

How To Make my mom's chow chow

    Chop all ingredients small and put into stock pot. Let them all come to a boil and simmer for 45 minutes or until the vegetables are done.

    While hot - boil your canning jars. Fill hot jars with the hot chow-chow. Let stand and cool. Check to make sure the jars are sealed. Enjoy all winter!!!!
