Ingredients For onion jam for steaks

  • 1 lg
    red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/4 c
    red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    red wine
  • 1 Tbsp
    thyme, fresh
  • 1/4 c
    light agave syrup

How To Make onion jam for steaks

    In pot over medium high heat, combine onion, sugar, vinegar, red wine, thyme; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low; cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are very soft & translucent, 10 minutes.

    Stir in agave. Cook without burning until onions begin to caramelize & mixture is thick & syrupy, 1 - 2 minutes. Jam will thicken as it cools. Serve at once over steaks or cover & refrigerate for up to 1 week.
