This is a breakfast favorite for our children. They always ask for seconds! I usually make with Old Fashioned Irish Oats or Scottish Porridge. Just adjust the water/milk content to cook oats thoroughly when not using instant oats.

Ingredients

2 c
quick oats
1 c
water
1 c
milk
2 Tbsp
unsweetened cocoa powder
3/4 c
dark brown sugar
1 tsp
cinnamon
2 Tbsp
vanilla
1/4 stick
butter
1 jar(s)
your favorite homemade jam or preserves

Step-By-Step

1In a small pot, whisk all the ingredients, save the preserves. Do this over a medium to high heat. You may add more or less water depending on how thick you prefer your oatmeal.
2Lower heat to low, continue to cook covered, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
3Scoop into a bowl and top with a heaping spoon of preserves. Why not try my homemade jam recipes!
