Directions Step-By-Step

The recipes of bygone days
Are written much about,
But as to olden gravies
They are about left out.
This old-time gravy once was called
By milk or flour or bacon,
But it was all the very same
When it was in the makin'.
The bacon would be fried till brown
Then taken from the pan,
Some flour stirred into the grease
And browned till it was tan.
Then milk poured in and seasoning
And stirred till thick and nice--
A call that it was time to eat
Need never be made twice.
This was truly a special time
For Sally, Sue and Davey--
When soaking homemade biscuits in
Their plates of bacon gravy.
