Dressing is my favorite part of Thanksgiving and the perfect compliment to turkey. I modified my mama's recipe and added some things my own family enjoys. Simple to make, but very flavorful!

Ingredients For mcbee's turkey day dressing

  • 1 lb
    dried bread cubes
  • 1 lb
    ground pork sausage with sage
  • 1
    onion, chopped
  • 2-3 stick
    celery, chopped
  • 1 lb
    fresh mushrooms, sliced
  • 2-3 c
    chicken broth (depending on how moist you like your dressing)
  • 1/2 c
    sunflower seeds
  • 8 Tbsp
    butter
  • 2 Tbsp
    fresh sage, minced
  • 1
    egg, beaten
  • ***i have also added cranberries or chopped apple, but that is optional.

How To Make mcbee's turkey day dressing

    Butter a 3 quart baking dish. Preheat oven to 350*. Place bread cubes into a large bowl.

    Brown sausage in a saute pan. Remove sausage to bowl.

    Melt butter in pan over med-high heat. Saute onion, mushrooms, and celery until soft. Add to bread cubes.

    Add sunflower seeds and sage. Mix well.

    Mix egg into broth and pour over bread cubes, tossing lightly to evenly distribute. Place dressing into baking dish. Cover with foil and heat through, about 40 minutes.
