Today I just had to see the Throw-Down at the Farmers' Market, 8/13/11. It was sponsored by the Local Association of Fishermen on Martha's Vineyard. "Secret Seafood to be used in this contest was "bluefish". The judges would give 10 points if the whole fish was used, or take away 10 points if it was not all used. They had one hour, to shop with $50. for produce, and prepare their entry. It started at 10:00 a.m. I was thrilled to be there watching, and I know each one of these great guys.

There were introductions of the chefs, judges, and information about the cause that helped to sponsor this event. The announcer kept talking with the chefs, asked people to speak about the local fishing industry and explained about the fish being caught locally and todays' choice of fish being used.

Local newspaper reporter/photographer Mark L. was there, and the photographer from Edible Vineyard was there also. It was lively, and fun, and with the loud speaker it attracted people from the farm stands and added to the excitement. The chefs went from stand to stand to get the ingredients they wanted, and within ten minutes were back preparing their menu.

Fresh off the stand produce included things like corn, potatoes, green beans, dragon tongue beans, garlic, onions, cukes, tomatoes, herbs among other things.

The pictures speak for themselves. I was sad to have to leave before it was judged, but I had a guest who was visiting and she needed to get back to the harbor to her boat. The boat was leaving shortly....So I'll find out who won and let you all know!!
