Carol Woodson - Mom wrote these directions down for me when I was about to have my first Thanksgiving. Because the turkey's have surely improved over the past 20 years, I would suggest going by the time suggest on the package. Perhaps cook them a little longer and slower than recommended. The only sister that has ever had a flop with this recipe is Jane.
1Turkey - thawed, washed and drained. Wipe the turkey with paper towel. Salt inside and out. Rube with oleo or shortening. Don't stuff it too tight. Pack extra dressing at either end around neck, liver and gizzard. Add two cups of water to the roaster when it's ready to be put in the oven. Roast it slow - 10 lbs, 6:30 to noon, 20 lbs turkey put in at 4 a.m.
