Ingredients For pizza casserole

  • 1 lb
bulk pork sausage, no casings or ground beef
  • 1 - 6 oz pkg
    pepperoni slices
  • 2 - 14 oz jar
    pizza sauce
  • 1 lg
    onion, chopped
  • 1 - 8 oz pkg
    mushrooms, sliced, fresh
  • 2 pkg
    refrigerated biscuits, buttery & flakey
  • 1 - 10 oz pkg
mozzarella cheese, shredded (or more to taste)

How To Make pizza casserole

  • 1
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • 2
Brown sausage (crumbling up as it cooks) or beef in a skillet until it is fully cooked & keep it warm on the stove until you are ready to add it to the casserole dish. Do not allow this meat to cool to room temperature or colder.
  • 3
Pour both jars of pizza sauce into the bottom of a 13" x 9" (or larger, depening on what you put into it - see notes below) casserole dish & then spread your cooked sausage or beef & chopped up onion & mushrooms evenly over the top of the sauce.
  • 4
Add pepperoni covering the pizza sauce & the rest of the ingredients. Bake until you see the pizza sauce boil or bubble. This should take about 15 - 20 minutes.
  • 5
Meanwhile, while your dish is cooking, open the biscuits & tear the biscuits into four pieces. The pieces should be about bite sized, so they are small enough to cook all of the way through once added on the top of the dish.
  • 6
Once everything is boiling, carefully take out the casserole pan & place it on the top of your stove. Evenly spread the small biscuit pieces over the top of the ingredients inside the pan.
  • 7
Place casserole back in oven & bake another 10 minutes or until golden brown. After 10 minutes check the center of the casserole to see if the biscuit pieces have cooked all of the way through & are not still doughy.
  • 8
Take out of oven (when done) & sprinkle cheese on top of the hot biscuit layer. The casserole temperature should allow the cheese to melt nicely over the top of the dish.
  • 9
Let cool about 5 minutes before serving. Serve with biscuit side up.

NOTES: This casserole can be served by itself or it can be served with other sides of your choice. Also, you can add different ingredients as you like, such as pineapple, bell peppers, olives, bacon or Canadian bacon, banana peppers or whatever else you like on your pizza. The only thing you need to be careful of is filling the pan too full of ingredients & letting it boil over in your oven. Also, when you add more ingredients you need to cook the dish longer in the oven to make sure it all gets cooked completely throughout.
