Ingredients For onion cheddar pork burgers

  • 2 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce, reduced sodium
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt & pepper
  • 2 lb
    ground pork (not sausage)
  • 2 c
    cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 lg
    onion, cut into 1" pieces
  • 4 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp
    olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    chili powder
  • 1/4 c
    ketchup
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    apple cider vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce, low sodium
  • 1 Tbsp
    coarse grain mustard
  • 6
    hamburger buns, split & toasted

How To Make onion cheddar pork burgers

    In a large bowl, combine worcestershire, salt & pepper. Add pork; mix well. Shape prok mixture into 12 - 4" patties. Sprinkle 1/3 C cheese on each of 6 patties; top each with remaining patty. Pinch edges of top & bottom patties together, sealing well. Cover & chill for at least 1 hour.

    CARAMELIZED ONION SAUCE: In large skillet, cook onion & garlic in hot oil over medium heat, about 10 minutes or until onion is golden, stirring occasionally. Add chili powder, cook & stir for 1 minute. Stir in ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, soy sauce & mustard. Bring to boiling; reduce heat. Simmer, uncovered, 2 minutes. Cool to room temperature. TIP: Can be made in advance. Transfer cooled mixture to an airtight container, cover & chill for up to 2 weeks. Bring to room temperature before serving.

    CHARCOAL GRILL: Grill patties on the rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 14 - 18 minutes or until done, turning once halfway through grilling. GAS GRILL: Preheat grill. Reduce heat to medium. Place patties on grill rack over heat. Cover & grill as above.

    Serve burgers in toasted buns topped with caramelized onion sauce.
