Ingredients For chop suey

  • 3/4 lb
    cubed beef, i use sirloin
  • 3/4 lb
    cubed pork
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1 lg
    diced onion
  • 2
    diced celery stalks
  • 1 can
    bean sprouts, add liquid
  • 1 can
    mushrooms, add liquid
  • 1 can
    water chestnuts
  • 1 can
    bamboo shoots
  • butter to brown meat
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • rice

How To Make chop suey

  • 1
    Brown meat in butter. Add remaining ingredients. Can be simmered on top of stove until meat is tender or in a 225 degree oven 2-3 hours. Either way check liquid and add more water, if necessary.

    Before serving, dissolve 2 Tablespoons corn starch in 1/4 cup water then stir in 1/4 cup soy sauce. Cook until liquid thickens, stirring often.

    Serve over rice.
