Jane's Baked Macaroni and Cheese

Gayle Seidelman Recipe

By Gayle Seidelman rodeomum

Cook Time:

This is my mother in law's recipe. She's from KY where Mac and Cheese is considered a staple on the kitchen table. It's custard style so that when cooled can be cut into squares. It's hers and now my most requested dish for potlucks. So easy with only 4 ingredients. Hope you enjoy it!

4 1/2 c
32 oz
block sharp cheddar cheese cut into chunks
16 oz
cooked macaroni
salt and pepper to taste

Directions Step-By-Step

Cook macaroni according to directions. Drain and set aside. In a bowl, whisk eggs and then add milk. Add salt and pepper to taste. Stir thoroughly. Place egg mixture in a large greased baking dish. Add cooked macaroni and stir thoroughly. Add cheese chunks and again stir thoroughly so that everything is evenly distributed. Place in a 350* oven and bake for 55 min. or until the top is a golden brown. Try to let rest for 15 min. before cutting into it.

Gayle, I just found your (and your MIL's) recipe for Mac & cheese, and I must say, custard style is my favorite! I can't wait to try your's because it's the simplist, basic recipes that make the best dishes! I have a co-worker that makes this style, and it is really good, although she won't share her recipe, she say's "she's not really sure how much of what goes into it". Her list of ingredients are the same as your's, so I now feel like I have the right proportions. Thank you!

It looks delicious, but more like a Mac & Cheese Quiche.
