This is one of my mother's tastiest sauce recipes. I remember the wonderful smell of our house when she would prepare it. My husband just loves when I make it. About the red pepper ingredient, try it sometime. The seeds gives it just the right taste. Use as much as you like, but try some a little at a time if you are not crazy about a little heat.
In a large skillet, fry bacon until almost brown. Add celery, onion and green pepper and saute 10 minutes.
Add tomato sauce and 1/2 can water and stir. Add garlic, pepper, sugar, celery flakes and red pepper seeds (optional). Stir and bring to a boil, turn down to low and cover. Simmer for 2 hours or until vegetables are tender. Add more water if needed.
