This is the recipe for stuffed cabbage rolls that my Hungarian mother-in-law used to make for her family.

Ingredients

12
green cabbage leaves, softened in boiling water

FILLING

1/2 lb
ground chuck
1/2 lb
ground pork
1/4 c
onions, chopped
1/2 c
cooked rice
1 large
egg, well beaten
1 Tbsp
sugar
salt to taste
1 tsp
dried parsley
1/2 tsp
dried thyme

SAUCE

1 can(s)
tomato soup
1 can(s)
chicken stock or water
1
grated tart apple
1 Tbsp
hot pepper
salt to taste
1/4
thyme

Step-By-Step

1Mix together all the filling ingredients.
2Use about 1/3 cup mixture and shape into a small loaf that is not as wide as the cabbage leaves. Wrap up in a cabbage leaf, folding in the sides of the leaf to totally cover the filling as you roll it. Place it seam side down in a baking dish. Repeat until all leaves and filling are used.
3Make sauce by combining all the ingredients and cooking for 10 minutes. Pour over the pan of cabbage rolls and bake at 350 degrees F until filling is done.
