This was an easy and popular dish when our kids were growing up. Served with picante sauce alongside a pot of beans it's always been well received by teenagers and adults alike. The amount of tortilla chips and cheese can be adjusted to individual tastes. We like a pretty thick layer of each!

Ingredients For tex mex taco casserole

  • 1 med pkg
    salted corn tortilla chips
  • 2 lb
    lean hamburger
  • 1/2
    onion, chopped
  • 2 clove
    garlic, chopped
  • 1 can
    cream of mushroom soup (10 3/4 oz)
  • 1 can
    cream of chicken soup (10 3/4 oz)
  • 1 can
    mild enchilada sauce (10 oz)
  • 1 can
    chopped green chiles (4 oz)
  • 1 cup
    milk
  • 3 cups
    cheddar cheese, grated

How To Make tex mex taco casserole

    Line 9x13 baking pan with Doritos, pressing down to flatten slightly.

    Brown hamburger in skillet along with onion and garlic. Mix in soups, sauce, chilies, and milk. Pour or spoon meat mixture over chips in dish. Cover with cheese.

    Bake at 400 degrees for about 30 minutes, or until cheese browns slightly.
