The Native Americans used to eat the warm heart of their prey in order to inherit their spirit. It was also a way to honor the animal, and use every part of it. This is an excellent dish to serve for a buffet or Sunday night supper.

Ingredients For marinaded venison heart

  • 1
    venison heart, cleaned, sliced
  • 1/4 c
    italian dressing mix
  • 1 tsp
    olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp
    sweet basil
  • 1/4 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1 tsp
    chopped parsley

How To Make marinaded venison heart

    Prepare the heart by cutting diagonally, (that seems to improve the tenderness of the meat). Wash well, cutting out the veins and arteries.

    Combine Italian Dressing Mix, and all other ingredients. Pour over slices of venison heart and let marinade for about 30 minutes, turning frequently.

    Saute' slices in hot oil, cooking about five to eight minutes( depending how thin the slices are).
