Some recipes allow you to substitute or omit an ingredient but not so here esp. so with the Sour Cream, it's a very important step in achieving the characteristic flavor. Credit for this scrumptious dish goes to Savella Stechishin of Traditional Ukrainian Cookery

Method:
Bake

Ingredients

1
tender stewing chicken
1/2 cup
seasoned flour
1/2 cup
butter
3
cups boiling water
1
small onion
1
carrot, diced
1
stalk of celery, diced
salt and pepper to taste
1/2 cup
sour cream
1 TBS
flour

Step-By-Step

1Cut chicken into serving pieces
and coat with the seasoned flour
2Lightly brown in the butter and place into a roasting pan
3Add the boiling water, cover and cook in a 300 degree oven for 1 hour
4Add the veggies and seasoning and continue cooking 1 to 11/2 or till tender
5Blend the flour with the sour cream* and add to the chicken the last 1/2 hour of cooking
6* I find blending a tablespoon of the hot broth to the blended sour cream and flour helps eliminate curdling and repeat the addition of hot broth until it pours nicely.
7Savella suggests Garnishing with Dill,
8Olga likes to serve with buttered noodles and mash potatoes sprinkled with chives

Enjoy
