My DH especially loved this. The meat was melt in your mouth tender and the taste was a nice change from the usual. After you have it in the pot there is nothing to do but checking occasionally and adding a little water if need be.

Ingredients For deviled beef

  • 1 1/2 lb
    chuck roast (stewing steak)
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening
  • 1
    small onion
  • 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp
    tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 Tbsp
    prepared mustard
  • 1 Tbsp
    honey
  • 1 Tbsp
    vinegar
  • 1 3/4 c
    water (about)
  • 1
    beef bouillon cube, crumbled (stock cube)
  • salt and pepper

How To Make deviled beef

    Cut chuck steak into 1 inches cubes.

    In a skillet with a lid melt shortening, add the onions and meat and brown for 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

    Add the flour and mix well. Add the rest of the ingredients and bring to the boil, stirring constantly.

    Reduce the heat cover with a lid. Simmer very gently, stirring occasionally, for 2 - 2 1/2 hours or until the meat is tender.

    Season to taste. Turn into a warm casserole and serve immediately.
