Everyone loves a good, rich, meaty spaghetti sauce, and this recipe is all that. I've tweaked it a bit because the original calls for "the dreaded mushroom--yuck!" I'm leaving that out. And I'm adding bell pepper--yum!
mild or hot italian sausage
lean ground beef
chopped bell pepper
rice krispies cereal
(14-1/2 oz.ea.) diced tomatoes
(8 oz.ea.) tomato sauce
dried italian seasoning
crushed fennel seeds (optional)
1In a large skillet, cook sausage until brown. Drain and place in a 4- to 5-quart slow cooker.
2In the same skillet, cook ground beef, onion, bell pepper, and garlic until beef is brown and vegetables are tender. Drain, and add ground beef mixture to sausage in slow cooker. Stir in rice krispies cereal, undrained tomatoes, tomato sauce, Italian seasoning, fennel, and pepper.
3Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours. Stir meat mixture and serve imediately over hot cooked spaghetti.
