Oven Fried Prawns

Jeanne Gliddon

One of my most favorite meals is Fried Prawns. I developed this recipe from one that was way to salty and had other ingredients in it that my family would not like. But I liked the fact that you bake them in the oven instead of deep frying them and end up with Prawns that you would swear were in fact deep fried. They are very easy to prepare and when I make them for my family and friends I am the most popular person around! I hope you will try this recipe and that you enjoy it as much as my family does!

pinch tips: How to Perfectly Cook Fish in a Pan

4 but you can make as many as you want

1 Hr

15 Min

24 large
prawns, peeled & deveined; tiger prawns/shrimp is good size
1 1/2 c
plain dried panko breadcrumbs
3/4 c
all-purpose flour
4 large
egg whites, slightly beaten
1 1/2 tsp
sea salt, 1 tsp. for breadcrumbs & 1/2 tsp. for flour
1/4 c
olive oil, add more as needed

Directions Step-By-Step

Preheat oven to 475 degrees.
Purchase large Prawns/Shrimp like a nice size Tiger Prawn.
Clean and devein Prawns if they are not purchased that way.
Gather all ingredients.
Pour flour, lightly beaten egg whites, Panko Breadcrumbs and Olive Oil in 4 shallow bowls and add 1/2 tsp. salt to flour and 1 tsp. salt to breadcrumbs.
Dredge shrimp in flour, shaking off excess. I use a spoon to help cover shrimp with flour.
Dip shrimp in egg whites and let excess drip of.
Cover shrimp with breadcrumbs. Use spoon to help cover shrimp with the crumbs.
Press shrimp in oil on both sides. Add more oil as needed to coat all shrimp.
Set slightly apart in baking pan.
Bake shrimp until browned on bottom, about 8 minutes; then turn over and bake for an additional 8 minutes until golden brown and opaque but still moist-looking in center of thickest part.
Enjoy this Oven Fried Prawn dinner with my Easy Homemade Tartar Sauce recipe that has already been posted.
Make Ahead Hint:

Bread Shrimp early in day and chill uncovered in refrigerator for 3 to 4 hours (the coating dries out and the Shrimp gets crisper). I highly recommend doing this!
