I like making sweet and savory food..my family tease me because my wooden spoons are marked Sweet on one and Savory on the other.

Ingredients For sweet and sour meatballs

  • 1
    slice whole wheat bread
  • 1 1/2 lb
    ground chicken or turkey
  • 1/4 tsp
    fresh grated ginger
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce, light1/4
  • 1/4 tsp
    tabasco or hot sauce {optional}
  • 1/4 c
    cider vinegar
  • 3/4 c
    water, cold
  • 1 can
    10 1/2 oz..beef broth
  • 2 Tbsp
    ketchup
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce, light
  • 2 pkg
    molasses
  • 1/4 c
    light brown sugar packed
  • 1
    8 0z can pineapple chunks in juice undrained
  • 3 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 2
    medium zucchini sliced 1/4 inch
  • 8 0z can water chestnuts drained
  • 11 oz
    can mandarin oranges drained
  • 10
    grape tomatoes cut in half
  • 2 c
    rice cooked to package directions

How To Make sweet and sour meatballs

    MEATBALLS..crumble bread into bowl add chicken and rest of meat ball ingredients,,mix lightly,,moisten hands and roll into 45 small balls..fry in a tbsp of oil or place on cookie sheet and bake at 350F for 25 Minutes'.

    SAUCE.....In large pot combine vinegar,1/2 cup water,beef broth,ketchup,soy sauce,molasses brown sugar, and pineapple chunks and juice, bring sauce to a boil combine cornstarch and remaining cold water mix thoroughly and add to pot mixing while adding to pot and cook til sauce thickens.

    Turn down heat and add zucchini to sauce and cook for 2 minutes add meatballs,chestnuts,oranges and tomatoes just til heated through..pour sauce over cooked rice.

    Cook rice to package directions..an added touch is to brown 2 tablespoons sesame seeds in dry frying pan and sprinkle,over meatballs when serving...{be careful when browning sesame seeds as they will burn easily.
