This is "Dinner Is In The Jar"! I am posting 2 recipes to give you an idea how you can make these dinners up to help you in an emergency ie: snowstorm, hurricane, natural disaster, power outage and also for convenience when you don't have time to cook etc. I am taking these recipes from the book "Dinner Is In The Jar" by Kathy Clark I am working on my own recipes, however, you can purchase her book by going to dinnerisinthejar.com I will post my creations when I complete them. If anyone else is into this, please let me know! Thanks! You can use either canning jars or mylar bags

Ingredients For hawaiian haystack

  • 2 c
    rice
  • 1 tsp
    chicken bouillon
  • IN BAGGIE IN JAR
  • 1/2 c
    chicken gravy powder
  • 1/2 c
    powdered milk
  • 1 Tbsp
    sour cream powder
  • 1 Tbsp
    cheddar cheese powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    garlic salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    italian seasoning
  • pinch
    black pepper and cayenne
  • 1/8 tsp
    oregano, dried
  • 1/8 tsp
    garlic powder
  • ADD ON
  • 2 Tbsp
    butter (2 pats)
  • 1 pt
    cooked chicken

How To Make hawaiian haystack

    Remove oxygen absorber. Put rice, butter and 3 c water in pot. Cover. Put heat on medium for 15 minutes, then on low for 15 minutes.

    Meanwhile, whisk contents of seasoning baggie with 2 c water, and add cooked chicken. Simmer sauce a few minutes until thick and powders are cooked, stirring often to assure it does not burn.

    To serve, put a bed of rice on plate and top with chicken sauce.

    Hints: Use either jar probably pint sized for this recipe or mylar bag. Go to UTube and search Mylar bags. They have lots of video and don't forget oxygen absorbers. Oxygen Absorbers keep moisture out of your food to keep it fresh. Ebay sells them or any preparedness company on or off the internet. They are not expensive.
