My mom created this over 10 years ago using Aidell's Chicken Apple Sausage and it has been a family favorite ever since. I had over 50 foster kids during that time and I can't think of one that did not like it or want seconds.

Blue Ribbon Recipe

So easy and tasty, this one-pot dish is perfect when you want to throw together a quick meal. Adding chicken apple sausage makes this different from other recipes. It's smoky, sweet, and savory all at once and the cinnamon-like notes are amazing with the potatoes and cabbage. Everyone is going to ask for seconds.

How To Make one-pot chicken apple sausage and cabbage

  • Sauteeing onions in a skillet.
    1
In large skillet, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the onions and briefly saute, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Potatoes layered onto the onions.
    2
Layer the potatoes on top of the onions. Sprinkle with a light layer of garlic salt.
  • Layering cabbage and chicken sausage.
    3
Once the potatoes start browning, reduce the heat to medium. Layer the cabbage and sausage on top.
  • Lid placed on the skillet and everything simmering.
    4
Once layered, cover with a lid and reduce heat to medium-low. Continue to cook, undisturbed, for 15 minutes.
  • Checking that the potatoes are cooked.
    5
Remove the lid and check if the potatoes are browned. If not, replace the lid and cook undisturbed until golden brown. Once browned, stir to allow some of the cabbage and sausage to rest at the bottom of the pan. Taste the cabbage and add more garlic salt to taste. Cover and cook until cabbage is cooked to your satisfaction, stirring occasionally.
