Ingredients For sour cream onion ring burgers

  • vegetable oil
  • 2 c
    buttermilk
  • 1 c
    sour cream, fat-free
  • 1 lg
    onion, cut into 1" thick slices, seperated into rings
  • 1 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4 c
    scallions (both greens & whites), finely chopped
  • kosher salt & pepper
  • 2 lb
    ground beef, lean
  • 1/4 c
    worcestershire sauce, reduced sodium
  • olive oil, extra virgin
  • 1/4 c
    ketchup
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 Tbsp
    parsley flakes
  • 1 Tbsp
    dill, fresh
  • 1 Tbsp
    chives, bunch
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1/4 tsp
    tabasco
  • 4
    buns or rolls
  • romaine lettuce leaves, chopped

How To Make sour cream onion ring burgers

    Fill deep fryer with vegetable oil; heat to 350 degrees F. Mix 1 1/2 C buttermilk, 1/2 C sour cream; mix well; add onion rings; soak for about 15 minutes. On plate, toss flour with scallions; season with salt & pepper. Dip onion rings into flour mixture; then in buttermilk mixture; then again in flour mixture. Fry 1 - 2 rings at a time; turning once, until golden, about 4 minutes. Transfer to rack & cool completely.

    Heat grill to medium high heat. Mix beef, worceshershire, pepper & salt. Divide beef into 4 patties. Drizzle with olive oil. Cook burgers 5 minutes per side (medium).

    Mix remaining buttermilk, sour cream, ketchup, garlic, herbs, lemon juice, salt, pepper & tabasco; mix well. Place burgers on bottom roll/bun; top with lettuce, onion rings & dressing; top off with top roll/bun.
