I'am putting together a recipe book for my children as they have asked me to and I must say, I am enjoying it! This is the chili my Mother made when I was growing up and I made it also for my children. My children love this chili, as all children say "Mom you make the best!" Truely, I have never had or seen one like it. I think this was an old Hormel chili recipe. I did tweak it a bit and added the chili powder as I like things a little spicier then my mom. This was so good I made this chili for a church to raise money, minus the chili powder. It has been a secret all these years, until now!

In a large dutch oven, fry the ground beef and onions until meat is no longer pink and onions are clear. (Don't crumble the hamburger up too much as it is better to have chunks of the beef) Drain.
  • 2
Add all the rest of the ingredients and simmer for 30 mins. Stirring occasionally (Longer is better). Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top of each served bowl.

This is even better the next day! Can freeze as well. This is more of a soup / chili. If cooked longer, can add more water if need be.

When my children were young, I would serve theirs in their bowl, pour out some of the chili sauce and add water so it wasn't too spicy for them. They loved it! I don't have to do that anymore! My one daughter now adds hot sauce to this chili, she told me she tweaks my tweaked version to her taste for more spice! :)

Important*** I serve this with a tall glass of milk and crackers with butter on them so you can dip them in the chili or some will scoop a spoonful on to the buttered cracker! My kids LOVED that! Thats how I ate it when I was a little girl and all of us still eat it that way today! Enjoy!!
