Ingredients For mongolian beef

  • 2 tsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp
    ginger powder
  • 3 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1/2 c
    soy sauce, low sodium
  • 1/2 c
    water
  • 1 c
    dark brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c
    vegetable oil
  • 1 lb
    flank steak
  • 1/4 c
    cornstarch
  • 4
    scallions, sliced thin (both greens & whites)
  • SERVE ON:
  • white or brown rice

How To Make mongolian beef

  • 1
    Slice steak against the grain into 1/4" thick slices. Dip into cornstarch coating both sides of beef. Let sit 10 minutes for the cornstarch to stick to beef.

    In a large skillet, heat 2 tsp oil over medium low heat & add ginger & garlic; cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Add soy sauce & water before garlic burns. Dissolve sugar in sauce & raise heat to medium & let boil for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.

    In a wok or large skillet, heat 1 C oil over medium high heat until it's hot but not smoking. Saute beef for 2 - 3 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, remove beef & drain on paper towels.

    Pour oil out of wok, then put back on stove over high heat. Add sauce; cook 1 minute. Add scallions; cook 1 minute. Add beef back, stir; cook 1 - 2 minutes. Serve over rice.
