Pronounced...greeyads. My Paw-Paw owned a corner grocery store and he had a butcher counter. Once he would butcher the beef for the store, all the trimmings went home for the family. My Maw-Maw would make grillades with it. This recipe is what she did with those trimmings. Full of flavor

Ingredients For grillades

  • 1
    beef round steak, 1/2 inch thick
  • 2 Tbsp
    vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    flour
  • 1
    onion, sliced
  • 1 lg
    can of tomatoes 28 oz
  • 1
    green pepper, minced
  • 1 Tbsp
    parsley, chopped
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1 c
    hot water
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/4 tsp
    pepper

How To Make grillades

  • 1
    Cut beef in cubes. Brown in oil. Set aside
  • 2
    Add flour to same oil and brown. A light brown color. Add onion and salt. Cook until soft.

    Return meat to pot and all other ingredients.

    Simmer for 1 1/2 hours or until tender.

    Serving Suggestions: Serve with hominy grits Serve over rice
