Ingredients For chow mein my mom's way

  • 1/4 c
    butter
  • 2 c
    cooked pork, beef, turkey or chicken
  • 1 md
    onion, chopped
  • 2 c
    diced celery
  • 1 1/2 c
    hot water
  • 1 can
    bean sprouts, drained or
  • 1 can
    mixed chinese vegetables, drained
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • ***
    thickening & flavoring
  • 2 Tbsp
    cold water
  • 1 Tbsp
    soy sauce
  • 2 Tbsp
    cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp
    sugar

How To Make chow mein my mom's way

  • 1
    Melt butter in skillet. Add onions and cook 3 minutes. Add celery, salt, pepper and hot water. Cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add bean sprouts or mixed Chinese vegetables and meat. Mix thoroughly and cook 5 minutes. Combine thickening and flavoring ingredients; add to meat mixture, stir, cook 1 minute.
