Blue Ribbon Recipe

This is the quintessential "foundation" recipe for the perfect cup of hot cocoa. Add extracts, liqueurs or candies to build on the terrific cocoa flavor... or sip it as-is! A delicious treat for a cool evening.


2 Tbsp
3 Tbsp
1/4 c
hot water
1 1/2 c
of tiny marshmallows (optional)

Directions Step-By-Step

Pour cocoa and sugar into a saucepan and slowly add hot water. Stir until ingredients are blended together. Bring mixture to a boil. Boil over medium heat about 2 mins. stirring constantly. Reduce heat and add milk stirring occasionally until mixture is heated thoroughly. DO NOT BOIL. Remove from heat and stir well. Pour into mugs and add marshmallows if using. Enjoy and wait for Santa!

This is just the way I remember my mother making it! Super easy and the ultimate for choco-holic me! Sometimes, I add a cinnamon-stick.

jus what i made for hubby last week but i used splenda blead.. and i used way to much.... was soooooooooooo sweet so next time i used 1/2 the splenda and it was great...........ty for sharing this

Jen i just want to say I made this and LOVE it. OMG. I think I died and went to I made this In my Hot choc. maker. It came out perfect. Wonderfull flavor. I will Never ever buy store bought again. Its so creamy and flavorable. I took hot water from tap and disolve the cocoa then added every thing to hot mixer. They work great if no one ever used one. Thanks again.((((Hugs)))))

Hello Jen .. I just want to say congrats on your blue ribbon.. You sooooo deserve it. I commented way before you got blue ribbon.. I use this all the time . I call this the 1-2-3- hot choc. That way i remeber the recipe... 1 1/2====2 tab. cocoa ===== 3 tab. sugar... I know i never forget the happy for you... soooo much better than any hot choc. I EVER had...
