Mmmmm! What a different way to have eggnog. I can't wait to make this around Christmas (or before...heeheehee).

Ingredients For eggnog-ritas

  • FOR THE CREME ANGLAISE:
  • 2 c
    1/2 & 1/2
  • 1/2
    whole nutmeg, crushed with a heavy pan
  • 1
    vanilla bean, split lengthwise & seeds scraped out
  • 6 lg
    egg yolks
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • FOR THE COCKTAILS:
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 tsp
    freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 oz
    brandy
  • 2 oz
    rum
  • 2 oz
    bourbon

How To Make eggnog-ritas

    CREME ANGLAISE: Combine the 1/2 & 1/2, crushed nutmeg & vanilla pod & seeds in a medium saucepan & bring just to a boil over medium heat. Remove from the heat & let steep 5 minutes.

    Whisk the egg yolks & sugar in a bowl. Slowly whisk in the warm 1/2 & 1/2 mixture, then pour the egg mixture into the saucepan & cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the creme anglaise just begins to thicken, about 10 minutes. Strain & refrigerate until cold, about 4 hours.

    COCKTAILS: Combine the sugar & ground nutmeg on a plate. Dip the rims of 8 martini glasses in water, then in the sugar mixture. Combine 1/2 C each of the creme anglasie, brandy, rum & bourbon in a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake well & strain into 4 glasses. Repeat to make 4 more cocktails.
