It’s not often that a cocktail is given credit for establishing a center of government, but it could be the case in North Carolina. Some believe the Cherry Bounce played a role in persuading the state’s general assembly to adopt Raleigh as the capital. Legend has it that the cherry brandy – the drink of choice at Raleigh’s Deep South Bar, where lawmakers met during the late 1700’s, nudged them in favor of settling in Raleigh. These days at Deep South, the formula has changed to feature cherry vodka, cranberry & lime juices and club soda, but the sentiment remains the same.
