Ingredients

4 c bread, raisin bread is great
2 c milk
1/2 c brown sugar, firmly packed
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
4 Tbsp butter
1 c raisins, or your choice of fruit
3/4 c walnuts , pecans or sliced almonds (opt)
1/2 c coconut (opt)

Treva's Notes:

I use either raisins, dried cranberries, chopped fresh fruit - whatever I'm in the mood for or need to use!
Also, I use sandwich bread, cold biscuits left from breakfast and I have used cinnamon bread.

 

Directions

Tear up bread into bite size pieces in a large bowl.

In another bowl, mix milk, brown sugar,spices and fruit.

Pour over the bread and stir well to coat the bread and let it set for 10-15 minutes. Stir often so the bread soaks up the milk.
Preheat oven to 375.

Spray or butter a casserole dish. Add your bread mixture. Dot the top with butter and bake for 40 minutes.
