Presidential Pie? Yep! Found this recipe in a cookbook and in honor of elections AND Thanksgiving this month, here is a recipe from Mr. Taft, perhaps his favorite pumpkin pie recipe. See more Capital Hill recipes in cookbook "Capital Hill Cooks" by Linda Bauer

Cook:

40 Min

Ingredients

1
home made or store bought pie crust 9", unbaked
1/4 c
sugar
1/2 c
brown sugar
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 tsp
allspice, ground
1 tsp
cinnamon, ground
1/2 tsp
ginger, ground
1 1/2 c
pumpkin, canned or cooked
2
eggs, separated
3/4 c
canned milk
3/4 c
milk, whole

Directions Step-By-Step

1
Mix sugars, salt and spices. Add pumpkin. Add egg yolks and canned and whole milk. (Can add more amounts of spices, to taste if desired).
2
Beat egg whites, not too stiff, and fold into pumpkin mixture. Pour into pie shell.
3
Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes, then turn down temperature to 350 degrees until done, approximately 30 to 40 minutes(depends on your oven). Test pie by when a knife comes out of filling clean.
4
I like to top my pumpkin pie with cool whip or whipped cream, sometimes sprinkled with a little bit of pumpkin pie spice on top.
