~ Simple Apple Crumb Pie ~ With Or Without Caramel

I took my mothers recipe and made it even better. She didn't complain. LOL! I thought she'd ask what I changed, but she didn't. Hers or mine, both are easy and delicious! I warmed up some caramel and piped over the pie. Completely optional.


Enjoy warm with a scoop of vanilla or cinnamon ice cream. Yum!

Ingredients

5 - 6 c
peeled, cored and sliced tart apples - i always use granny smith
1 Tbsp
flour
1/2
lemon - juiced
1/4 c
each - granulated sugar and packed brown sugar
1 tsp
cinnamon
1 - 9
inch unbaked pie crust - i used store bought today

CRUMB TOPPING

5 Tbsp
butter, melted
3/4 c
flour
1/2 c
sugar
sprinkle
of cinnamon

Step-By-Step

Step 1 Direction Photo

1Preheat oven to 400 degree F.

In a large bowl, toss apples with lemon juice. Sprinkle with sugar, cinnamon and flour. Toss to coat apples evenly.

2Evenly arrange apples in pie crust.

3In a microwave safe bowl, melt butter. Mix the flour and sugar with the melted butter.

4Crumble the mixture evenly over the apples and sprinkle with cinnamon, lightly.

Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce temperature to 325 degree and bake an additional 25 - 30 minutes or until apples are tender.

Note: I used a crust shield for the first 30 minutes.

5Cool on rack.

Keep refrigerated when nor serving.
