My husband's little Italian grandmother used to make these whenever we would come to visit for the weekend. I never got the exact recipe for them from her, but I've managed to match it as closely as I can. They are really good!

Ingredients For nona's pizza pies

  • 1/2 lb
    sweet italian sausage or bulk pork sausage
  • 2
    frozen or refrigerated pie crusts
  • 1 c
    cottage cheese
  • 2
    eggs, lightly beaten
  • 4 c
    shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 pkg
    3 1/2 oz. sliced pepperoni
  • 2 Tbsp
    milk
  • 1
    small jar commercial pizza sauce

How To Make nona's pizza pies

    Remove casings from sausage. Cook sausage and pepperoni in a medium skillet until browned, stirring to crumble sausage and separate pepperoni; drain well and set aside.

    Line a 9 inch pie plate with half of pastry; flute edges. Bake at 400 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Remove from oven and reduce temperature to 350 degrees.

    Combine cottage cheese and eggs, beat well. Stir in sausage, 8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, parmesan cheese and pizza sauce. Pour into the two baked 9" pie pastrys.

    Top pizza with remaining mozzarella cheese

    Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Let cool 5-10 minutes before serving.
