My Mom used to make this yummy custard. The flour settles to the bottom and creates its own crust. Easy and very good!

If you use the spices I sprinkled on the top of mine (nutmeg, cinnamon and allspice) the custard tastes almost like eggnog. Good stuff!!!!

For some reason, I have been unable to find a coconut custard pie here on the west coast. Grew up on the east coast and that pie, usually just a store bought Entenmann's, was a family favorite. I'm not a baker, but it was obvious that if I wanted coconut custard pie, I was going to have to try to make it myself! Well, after several unsuccessful attempts (overcooked custard, soggy crust) at recipes specially for coconut custard, I came across your Magic Crust Custard Pie recipe, and had to give it a try just for its sheer simplicity! My variation, of course, was to add apx 1 c. flaked coconut to the ingredients (including some sprinkling for the top) and omitting the nutmeg (too overpowering for my taste). Well, much to my surprise and delight, I won't have to miss that store bought Entenmann's any more! Thank you and your mom for a truly magical recipe :-)
