EASTER PIE..."an ITALIAN PASTTIERA" recipe

My Italian friend ANN ,serves this at her annual Easter dinners.
I never heard of this Italian pie..but it was Delicious!
She mailed me the recipe that she had found in a magazine. Maybe in Taste of Home Magazine.
She said it was very close to the one her mother passed on to her.
If you have never tried it...Please do!

Ingredients

1 - 2/3 c
flour crust
2 Tbsp
sugar
1/2 tsp
salt
1/4 c
butter
1/4 c
shortening

eggs, slightly beaten

15oz. ricotta cheese filling filling
1 c
sugar
1 Tbsp
flour
1/4 tsp
g rated lemon peel
1/4 tsp
grated orange peel and a dash of salt
4
eggs
2 tsp
vanilla
1/3 c
semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/8 tsp
ground cinnamon
dash ground nutmeg

Directions Step-By-Step

In a bowl combine flour,sugar,salt and baking powder, cut the butter & shortening until it resembles small crumbs.
Add eggs, stir until moistened and mix forms a ball.
Cover & refrigerate for 1 hour.
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a 10 inch circle.
Place in a 9 inch pie plate, fluted crust.Refrigerate.

For filling beat the ricotta, sugar and flour in a mixing bowl.
Add grated peels and salt. Beat until smooth.
In a another bowl, beat eggs until thick and lemon colored, about 5 minutes, slowely fold into ricotta mixture.
Gently mix in remaing ingredients.
Pour into crust.
Bake at 350 for 55 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center, comes out clean.
Cool.
Store in the refrigerator. Serves 6-8 servings.
