Butterscotch Brownies

I've made these bars for several years.

We've always called them Butterscotch Brownies, but alot of people call them Chew Bread or Chewy Bars.

The glaze I am including is optional, but I wouldn't dare escaping the lovely taste of brown sugar and butter....YUM YUM!

4 Tbsp
butter or margarine, melted
1 c
light brown sugar
1 large
1 c
all-purpose flour
1 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
1 tsp
vanilla (i sometimes use rum extract)
1 c
chopped pecans

evaporated milk
1 tsp
vanilla (i sometimes use rum extract)

Directions Step-By-Step

Preheat oven to 325 degrees; grease a 8 x 8 x 2 inch glass baking dish.
In a medium mixing bowl, combine butter, sugar, egg, flour, baking powder, salt, vanilla (or rum extract) and pecans. Mix well (batter will be thick). Spread in prepared pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes.
In a small saucepan, bring brown sugar, butter and milk to a boil. Stir until thickened. Add vanilla (or rum extract). Drizzle over warm bars. Cut into 16 bars when cool.
