I am the neighborhood hero! We recruited some kids on my street for a true kid-tested opinion... They were a unanimous hit! This will be a summertime staple for sure.


1 pkg
16 oz. frozen unsweetened strawberries thawed and crushed
8 oz. carton strawberry lowfat yogurt
2/3 c
cranberry juice cocktail
1 Tbsp
3 oz. size paper cups
wooden sticks

Directions Step-By-Step

Combine first 4 ingredients in a medium bowl, stirring well
Spoon mixture evenly into cups.
insert wooden sticks in each one, freeze until firm, then toss into a freezer bag. keep frozen until ready to serve

Kathy, Sugar substitutes generally do not significantly change a receipe,and would not affect these frozen treats that only asked for one Tbs. of sugar. However, you still need the 16 ounces of frozen, unsweetened strawberries,to make this recipe work in volume and consistancy, and I don't think you need the sugar free preserves at all. I made mine with no sugar at all, all natural cranbury juice with no sweetner added, unflavored Greek yogurt and the frozen strawberries. Perhaps a bit more tart, but very refreshing and low calorie.

These look so good!! Do you think I could use a sugar free variety?? Unflavored yogurt mixed with sugar fee strawberry preserves and sugar free Cranberry juice?? Has anyone tried it?? I am diabetic and I would like to know about possible mods-thanks:))

Oh can't wait to try these yummmm, had to alter a bit with strawberry greek yogurt and cranberry pomegranate juice :) tossed it all in my smoothie blender. Oh and if you don't have wooden sticks on hand plastic spoons work great and sometimes come in handy :)

I like this idea just the way the recipe is. I think they would go over better with my family. I have tried other juices, but not with the fruit juices without any fruit which are OK but I really like the idea of the fruit.

Cranberry juice is "red" and is a berry like strawberries and combines well with them, as well as having naturally good health properties. The sugar and yogurt would reduce the tartness. If you use grape juice, it should be pure and not a "drink" with other sweetners. But the grape flavor may not work well with the Strawberries and strawberry yogurt. Lemonade will also be tart but if it is homemade it should have good nutritional properties as well. The idea I see here is a "healthy" summer treat with some substance. I froze pomagranet juice by itself during this heat, and it was satisfying as an ice pop to cool off. I am anxious to try these for a more flavorful and substantial summer treat.
