Charmaine's notes for this recipe:
I remember this frozen treat when I was very little. I was so happy to have found this recipe & now I will share it with all of you! This recipe was served at Leeward Drive In on Oahu in Waipahu but alas not no more! I'm so grateful that I found this recipe to share with everyone!

This sounds so good for the kids. Is it more like ice cream or a slurpie? Thanks for posting it Charmaine.

Aloha Bev,
This is a form of italian ice. This ice cream is sold on Maui as Gury Gury ice cream, but originally it was sold on Oahu first back in the 70's but the old drive inn that sold it stopped that's why I was so happy to have found it, just to share. You can find it in Hawaii stores, I think the kids would totally love it - cause I did when I was little...LOL & I still do!! Much Mahalo's (Thank You's)

Charmaine, there is a little ma and pa shop at the Maui Mall that makes what they call guri guri.. their ingredients (that I know of) are sugar, evaporated milk , shave ice ground really fine (like snow) and they have 2 flavors Pineapple and strawberry and you buy it by the scoop.. its heavenly and so is your recipe too as I have made it for my kids many years ago. So happy to have you here!!

Aloha Auntie Shirley,
Yes, I know of that shop BUT before Maui had it, it was served on Oahu in Waipahu at Leeward Drive Inn back in the early 70's. That is where I first saw it & yes Auntie this is the same recipe it used to be called Goodie Goodie Ice cream but its more like an Italian ice thing. So glad to share this recipe with you. ENJOY!
